GBC Open Day Appeal
The GBC Open day is fund-raising event that has grown from year to year. Originally, the event would encompass a number of fundraising initiatives that took place on the day of the Open Day itself, but over the years this has grown, and now a number of fundraisers are held throughout the year with money being presented live on air at the Open Day broadcast.
The GBC Open Day normally takes place a week before Christmas Day, always on a Wednesday. The event starts on Radio Gibraltar at 9am, and continues on radio until 7pm when GBC Television normally takes over, starting their live televised version of the event after the news bulletin, from 9pm till the early hours
RAOB Gibraltar Lodge Appeals 2018
The William Tilley lodge Appeal
The William Tilley Lodge is proud to announce that their chosen charity to support in 2018 will be
The Gibraltar Cardiac Association is a locally registered charity and all persons with cardiac issues can become members.
The charity was created when a group of concerned citizens with cardiac issues realised that there were no charities or associations that could support, care, prevent, rehabilitate and inform cardiac sufferers about their specific needs and concerns, despite cardiac conditions being the second most frequent condition that afflicts Gibraltar residents.
A charitable trust was set up with the following aims; To provide support and assistance to families and individuals who are affected by heart conditions or heart disease. To raise money for the purchase of equipment for the same and donate them to any other Charity, Authority, organisation or individual and to promote the education of cardiac issues, including but not limited to the advancement of services specialising in the care of patients afflicted by heart conditions, as well as to support the active development of cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation services in Gibraltar.
To advance and support education for the prevention and rehabilitation of cardiac conditions, in this context the charity aims to support the local hospital and authorities, in the treatment, rehabilitation, prevention and care of persons who are ill, disabled or in need of medical care because of cardiac conditions/issues.
As part of our drive to introduce ourselves, we have opened a Facebook page named Gibraltar Cardiac Association, whose sole purpose is to recruit, fundraise, inform and issue health and informative tips for the prevention of cardiac issues for both cardiac sufferers as well as their families.
Also as part of our drive to introduce ourselves and advance on issues concerning our members, we have had various meetings during the past few months with the Minister for Health, Former Leader of the Opposition, Independent MP Marlene Hassan Nahon and shortly with Mr Llamas as well as with various members of the Health Authority. For the moment, we are still awaiting a follow up meeting with the Minister for Health to discuss ongoing issues of concern and what if any progress has been made from our first meeting, although we have been referred to the Deputy Medical Director and in spite of us handing in our agenda for the meeting, to date we have received no further correspondence even though the meeting was requested in July in response to the Ministers insistence at our initial meeting to have one every quarter.
We are also in the process of trying to affiliate ourselves with the British Heart Foundation as well as the World Heart Federation so as an association we can be kept informed and participate in all events as well as co-ordinated campaigning together, and be kept informed of all relevant medical progress and best practices for cardiac sufferers.
On a more positive note, we can now announce that we now have premises, recently allocated for us at 72 Prince Edwards road (next to Hargraves). We will be requiring both monetary donations as well as furniture and a computer so that we can finally function for our members and Cardiac sufferers.
